Fall Traditions

Cristin Michelle

I don't know about you, but fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. Nothing compares to a New England fall and all the traditions that come along with it. My absolute favorite traditions all happen during time of year and I'd love to share them with you all to hopefully help create some of your own! COVID has changed some of my traditions but a lot of them can still happen. Check out my favorite traditions below with some New England spots to hit! Happy fall ya'll :)

Apple picking & cider tasting:

Alright, one of my most favorite fall traditions and typically the one that always happens first every year is apple picking. I have a couple of favorite places I like to go local to me in Maine. The first is PieTree Orchard in Sweden, ME. This is usually where I go every year because it is all around perfect. There is plenty of trees to pick from and it's on top of a hill which makes the views of the white mountains really nice! They have the cutest shop where you can get all things fall including cider, donuts and brick oven pizza.

Another one of my favorite apple orchards is Randall Orchards in Standish, ME. Just like PieTree, there are plenty of trees to pick from and it is definitely family friendly. Randall Orchards make some of the BEST apple cider that is a must try.

Last but certainly not least is Ricker Hill Orchard in Turner, ME. If you like all things fall and hard cider, this is the place for you. They have such an amazing variety of their hard ciders that you can do a tasting of 4, 6, or 8 ciders (I would go for the full 8) and make sure to take some home with you when you find your favorite flavor (mine is the blueberry)!

Halloween movie nights

I don't care how old you are or who you are, but there is nothing better than Halloween movie marathons (well maybe besides Christmas movie marathons). Freeform channel released their list of the 31 Nights of Halloween and each night plays AT LEAST one Halloween movie. Light your candles, get in your jammies and turn the lights off because its movie marathon night.

Pumpkin picking & carving

This is a messy but good tradition. Going to a farm to pick out your perfect pumpkin is the absolute best. Growing up, I never craved pumpkins because my family didn't celebrate Halloween and this was seen as a Halloween activity. Now that I'm an "adult" and get my make my own decisions and traditions, this will always be one of them. The hardest part is picking out a design! This is seriously the perfect activity for a couple, by yourself or with the whole family. Make sure to save and cook those pumpkin seeds!

Corn Maize

If you've never gone to a corn maize, put this on your fall bucket list. I go every year and end up questioning why I do when I'm completely stuck in the middle of the maize BUT, i'll always go back. If you're local to New Hampshire/Maine, Sherman Farm in East Conway, NH is by far the best and most fun place to go. It's family friendly but also super fun for adults. The corn maizes are incredible and have a different theme every year. They have the best apple cider donuts you will ever eat and have cute goats that you can feed. Be sure to check out their farm stand before you leave and grab some of their flavored milk, you will not regret it.

**Make sure to buy tickets online ahead of time to make sure you can get in. Only a limited number of tickets are being sold each day due to COVID**

Fall Foliage Drive

This one is easy and free (besides the necessary car snacks). The foliage all through New England is insanely beautiful but I must say, nothing compares to the White Mountains foliage in New Hampshire. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to take a drive up the Kancamagus Highway. There are multiple places to stop and take a hike, take a swim or to simply take in the amazing views. Also be sure to check out Crawford Notch as well!

Fairs

This is by far my favorite tradition of fall. My house growing up was about 10 minutes from one of the most popular fairs in New Hampshire/Maine; the Fryeburg Fair. If you've ever been to this fair, you know how great it is. I'm honestly at a lose for words on how to describe it because it just has something that everyone can be interested in. My personal favorite is all the fair food and walking around to see all the animals. I didn't go to the fair if I didn't leave crying because I was told I can't buy a bunny.

**Crying so many tears this year as all fairs have been cancelled in 2020 due to COVID**
